How Believing In the 3 SEO Myths That Keep Coming Back Can Affect Your Online Business

The strange thing about search engine optimization is that whenever people try to explain it, there are others who will appear and muddle you up about it. To make it even more complicated there are all sorts of myths that surround SEO and they just keep coming back no matter how many times they can be explained away. At times is seems that they must be true because they sound so plausible. Simply because these myths abound it does not mean that you have to believe them if you want your online income business opportunities to be successful,

1. Out of all the myths the one that seems to make the most sense is page rank. The basic concept behind the majority of search engine strategies is to get a variety of links from high quality websites. The disadvantage here is that making a decision on what actually defines a quality website can be extremely difficult. Commonly the answer to this is the best websites are “authority” website, but how would you define what authority means?

When the concept of page rank was first introduced by Google, it was a system used to identify authority websites numerically. The downside to page rank is that it is an extremely limiting metric as it does not really define the websites that carry the greatest authority because if it did then the SERP’s would be capable of sorting out the relevant pages by page rank alone, and this is certainly not the case.

This does not necessarily mean that page rank lacks value but rather that you must remember that there are many other factors that affect how much authority a site has. If this is what drives the SEO method that you use then you may be disappointed.

2. Another myth that remains in circulation is if one link is good then having thousands must be fantastic. Rather than concentrating on how many links your website has, there are two things that you should be doing if you want your site to do well in the SERP’s.

Start off by establishing the number of links your competitors have. Generally you should try to create about five percent more links that have equal or higher quality. There are many instances of websites with only 100 back-links that outrank websites with thousands of links and the reason for this is because those 100 back-links are all of a high quality. In order to succeed you need to have a strategy that combines quantity and quality.

3. The third myth deals with only linking to your homepage, and this myth is extremely difficult to get rid of, as it does hold some truth. Generally a good rule to follow is that your homepage should have more back-links than any of the other pages on your website. Logically this makes perfect sense because your homepage will automatically share its power throughout the rest of your site. What creates the myth in the first place is when people begin building back-links to their website and ignore the inner pages completely. Remember that as long as you are effectively inter-linking your inner pages then every link to each and every page will add strength to your whole website, and in order for your link building to appear natural, each page should get each page should get at least some back-links to it so that it appears natural.

From this you can see that your focus should be on following the SEO method that you have chosen to build successful legitimate businesses and ignore the myths that are constantly proven to be unfounded.
